HTH HAPPENINGS THIS PAST WEEK!
Dear HTH Families,
As we complete the second week back from winter break, our school has certainly been impacted by the recent surge in Covid infections. We have witnessed an increase in both student and teacher absences, and I appreciate your patience as we manage these absences, make sure we have adequate Covid testing, and provide support for our students at home. We want to sincerely thank
all the families who donated funds to supply every student and staff member with a PPE kit upon return to school. In particular we thank our dean of students, Marcus Bell, who has been at the lunch tables providing Covid testing daily.
As we navigate these trying times, I keep in mind that we are all in this together and hope that our HTH community will emerge from this stronger and more connected than ever.

Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you at Virtual Ask Andrew on Thursday, January 20th at 6:30 pm.

Dr. Andrew Gloag,

Director,

11th-grade students launched the Spring Innocence Project with a recreated crime scene from a previously exonerated case. In the coming weeks, students from the Jana/Palmer and Wade Robinson/Egler teams will assess case files from defendants requesting appeal support from the California Innocence Project.

COVID-19 Testing

We are offering FREE antigen testing on the PL campus daily (7:30-9:30), weather and circumstances permitting. All staff and students can test during those hours. Staff and students that registered or were here last school year will have to register again. But once you do that registration and consent is good for the 2021-2022 school year.

Please help us improve HTH by completing the Youth Truth Survey – an independently run survey that allows you to provide feedback on how we are doing as a school. We value all feedback – the good news that helps us know what we are doing right, and the not-so-good that helps us know the areas where we could do better. We aim to be the best place for you to send your children and this is one way that helps us get there.  Family Survey Link

Support Our HTH Student Reach Her Goals!
My name is Zamzam Fadhil, and I am a Junior at HTH. One of my goals  is to study abroad in Morocco for four weeks this Summer. I want to immerse myself in a culture that is new to me and inspire young teens like myself in my community to study abroad. I want to use my voice to answer the questions of young teens within my community about the program and share my memories from the trip. Please consider supporting my goals. Thank you.

COLLEGE NEWS

HTH Families and Students,

We hope everyone is doing well despite the circumstances. I am eagerly awaiting lots of bell ringing from our seniors in the coming months. Did you know that we have a senior bell right outside the front doors of the school? The seniors ring it when they are admitted to college!

A couple of dates coming up to mark on your calendar:

  •  Friday, January 14th -   Juniors should have completed the Junior Year College Survey in SCOIR. At our 1-on-1 session, students will receive a Junior Year Timeline -- a personalized "to-do" list, based on their post-secondary goals.
  • Wed., January 26th – 5:30pm – 7:30pm FAFSA Completion Workshop - Registration link here A reminder your FAFSA application should be filed no later than Feb. 15th.
  •  Wednesday, Jan. 26th, 5:30pm-8pm online for Coastline Case Studies - This event is a great opportunity to learn about what goes into an admission decision and how college representatives review student applications.
  • Thurs., Feb. 17 at 10:30 am - On-site Community College Registration Day - San Diego City/Mesa/Miramar rep's will be on campus for on-campus to help seniors complete their application and gain PRIORITY ADMISSION for classes.

STORM BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL
STORM BOYS BASKETBALL COACH 100TH WIN AND NAMED ONE OF SAN DIEGO'S MOST UNDERRATED COACHES

By HTH Sports Journalist Jack Brooks

The HTH STORM Boys Varsity Basketball team played against the Sweetwater Red Devils on December 11th, a game that no one on the team will soon forget.

STORM ended the first quarter with a tight five-point lead and continued to play back and forth with the Red Devils throughout the night. With the game coming down to the final minute, at one point having a score differential of four, HTH played well under the pressure, resulting in a 65-58 win.
The win marked a gigantic milestone for Head Coach Lance Beesley, with his 100th career win at HTH. The team surprised him with a Gatorade shower celebration after the game showing their appreciation. “I’ll tell you, I’m so proud of these kids, man. They fought hard, that’s a good team over there, and we continued to play for 32 minutes,” Coach Beesley said. “We practice hard, that’s what our deal is. We really work with each other and we really make things difficult in practice, so I think we were really comfortable tonight.” Coach Beesley also shared his thoughts on how the post-game celebration felt. “I’ll tell you what man, heaven, it’s beautiful.”
