April 16th Newsletter

"Story is the wisdom that can guide you to your true destiny--both temporal and spiritual. All of the great myths, legends, and fairy tales have that power. If you understand their secrets, they can guide you to a full realization of your self. Great stories are designed to guide us to our full potential and are as necessary to our well-being as fresh air."
-James Bonnet, author Stealing Fire From the Gods.

Here are some stories and we hope you find some fresh air.  Hello.  Welcome to High Tech High

We’re excited to SHOW OUR WORK and SHARE OUR LEARNING.  Take a look around, starting with the featured projects, profiles of the teachers, and short stories that capture the student experience at HTH.  Enjoy!

Have you heard the "C" gong ringing in Chris White's office?
Here's the video of Avery Hansen ringing the "C" Gong and the poem that is scribed onto it:
The Legend of the "C" Gong
"The chime of this gong means something bold.
It's the sound of a senior's story that must be told.
The chime of this gong means someone is college bound.
An acceptance letter was received, OH how sweet the sound.
Behold, if an acceptance letter is NOT received before the gong is struck,
For that person, throughout the college process there will be bad luck."

Cuyamaca College Offers Case Study In Eliminating The ‘Math Pipeline Of Doom’

SUMMARIZE and CONNECT: Last year, Cuyamaca eliminated several layers of low-level math classes that students who test poorly must pass before taking math that will count toward their degrees. Extensive research has found many students get stuck in these remedial classes and never graduate, which is why Nichols calls them the “math pipeline of doom.” The problem is especially acute among students of color.
Earlier this month, the California State University Board of Trustees voted to eliminate its own “math pipeline of doom.” Now faculty at Cal State San Marcosand other CSU campuses are scrambling to overhaul of their curriculum in time for the next batch of freshmen.
