COVID-19 Testing

We are offering FREE antigen testing on the PL campus daily (7:30-9:30), weather and circumstances permitting. All staff and students can test during those hours. Staff and students that registered or were here last school year will have to register again. But once you do that registration and consent is good for the 2021-2022 school year.

Why did you choose to work in education?
Making a difference in people's education, especially when it's in a way where I am able to connect with the students on an emotional level, is everything to me.
What are your hopes for this school year?
I went through years of school without finding a single educator that I felt that I could connect to. Teachers were either too busy or had a thin level of patience that made me never want to reach out
for help. I want to be one of the adults on campus who students feel they can go to for help/guidance, no matter what.
What do you love most about HTH?
Project-based learning is by far the best part of HTH for me. Testing was never something I was good at, and so the fact that I got to learn by doing, while I was a student at HTHCV, was a really cool experience for me. I see the kids I work with now also benefitting from this learning style.
Tell us about a memory you have from high school?
One memory I have from high school was when I read my Personal Essay about my father's incarceration to a room full of students, their parents and teachers during our 11th grade Exhibition. By the time I was done, many, including myself, were in tears. But I felt it was important to share this with folks who really have no idea what this experience could be like, especially for a kid.
If you were a tree, what kind would you be and why?
To be honest, I don't know if I would want to be a tree as so many are cut down, but if I could be one without the fear of being chopped, I think I'd like to be a palm tree, on an island, because of my love for being at the beach.

The Many Sides of School Vaccinations, But What Do The Students Think

By: HTH Journalist Jack Brooks

Recently there has been a lot of talk about vaccine requirements for California schools. On January 24, 2022, Senate Bill 871 was proposed by California State Senator Richard Pan.  If this bill were to pass, students would be required to receive the Covid-19 vaccinations to attend K-12 schools in California. On January 20, 2022, Senate Bill 866 was proposed by California State Senator Scott Wiener. This bill would allow children 12 or older to choose to be vaccinated without a parent's consent,

allowing children with different views from their parents to make their own choice. More locally, in December 2021, a judge shut down the possible vaccine mandate for San Diego Unified students, claiming that the district didn’t have the authority to make the vaccines required for all eligible students.

STORM BOYS SOCCER
Our varsity soccer team faced off against Crawford High School at our last home field game of the season before CIF. Vengeance was in the air as our STORM boys had previously lost 0-2. They fought hard after a relatively early Crawford goal; Sabian Houston connected a skillful header into the back of the Crawford net off Aidan Mendoza’s beautiful corner kick to bring the game to 1-1. Alonso Ruvalcaba made countless daring saves to support our team from the back, and freshmen Mateu Espinos, Gio Franco, Santos Lagler, and Coco Polleux stepped up to fill big shoes for our seniors who couldn’t play. On Monday, February 7th, our boys will have their Senior Night at 4:30pm before continuing to bring the rain against Clairemont High School at 6pm at the latter’s field, another 1-2 vengeance story. With three games left before CIF playoffs, come witness our momentum as we honor and celebrate our seniors and get ready to hunt for the CIF title! GO STORM!!
