In nine days from page to stage, students did a workshop performance of She Kills Monsters (not a musical), with 9 characters, using giant masks and puppets as well as traditional acting. Amazing!

100 Degrees of FREEDOM hikers featured on KPBS, the group made it to Scissors Crossing at mile 77 on the PCT.

From HTH 9th grade teacher Ms Chase:

I am absolutely heartbroken that a heatwave will halt the epic journey we've had out here. These kids are tough as nails and no one will ever understand how mentally and physically challenging this trip has been, and in general how backpacking is.

I am so proud of how we came together, made new friendships, were able to use the wilderness responder skills we gained, hiked 15 mile days, laughed, cried, sweat and shared meals together.

I'll never forget this trip and I'll forever be grateful for the willingness of students to push through all the struggles.

Until we meet again, on some trail in the future...

Exhibition 2022
12th grade students created two documentaries for their exhibition project. This is the second doc, Kiss Our Class Goodbye, directed by Thomas Joyce. You can view the other documentary, A Page Out Of Our Book, directed by Noah McDougall here.
This Spring, our 11th graders partnered with the California Innocence Project to learn about the criminal justice system and wrongful conviction.
After collaborating with the organization all semester, students created this "Criminal Justice News Special" AM Show PM Show to reflect on their learning and dive deeply into topics they wanted to learn more about.
In groups, students conducted interviews with experts in the criminal justice system and used what they learned in their reporting to create this news special.

Margaret Egler cares about her students in a way that I've never seen before in other teachers. Not only does she teach well, but she is personally invested in each and every one of her students' lives and academic successes.
She also will recommend resources for you that she finds (even if you're not longer her student) so you can expand your interests/further your life experience. Margaret goes above and beyond as a teacher and a mentor- she really just wants us to succeed.
What is your advice for the incoming 9th grade HTH students?
Savor high school and learning in a creative/welcoming environment

COLLEGE NEWS
College acceptances
Across HTH, 73% of our graduates are enrolling at four-year colleges, including some of our nation’s top universities! This far exceeds the 26% four-year college enrollment rate for San Diego County schools overall. When HTH began in 2000, we established a “common intellectual mission” that included the goal for every student to have access to higher education. Beginning in kindergarten, we want to make sure that every single student knows that they are part of a college-going, and college-completing, culture. This spring, we are so happy to share with you that students from the classes of 2022 from HTH, HTHI, HTHMA, HTHNC, HTHCV, and HTHM have been accepted to EVERY UC campus, Stanford University, Columbia, Cornell, San Diego State, the University of San Diego, Georgia Tech, University of Michigan, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, and many, many other fantastic colleges and universities!

10th grade HTH students created accounts this week on the new college search tool CaliforniaColleges, edu. This tool is FREE for students, parents and educators and the state hopes it will help students navigate the California college admissions process. Try it out!

From Coach O'Kelley, Director of Athletics and Wellness:

We have had an incredible year of STORM Athletics. We have had many CIF playoff bids, league successes, and CIF championships! It has been an exciting year getting our teams back together in full force. Our athletes have shown extreme resiliency throughout the last few years and I am so proud of them.
Athleticclearance.com is ready for the 22-23 school year! Please go online and update your profile or create a new profile if you are new to the community for all 22-23 sports. Tryouts for the fall will be posted soon and information will be sent out shortly.
We are working on hosting a school sports physical for the first week of August. Please remember every athlete needs to fill out the athletic clearance profile and have an updated Sports Physical for the 22-23 school year.

HTH BOOSTER CLUB NEWS

2022-2023 Booster Club had its first meeting to plan for next school year.  HTH Booster Club is a group of parents who have come together to create an organization that will provide needed funding for all HTH sports.  All HTH Parents are welcome!  WE NEED YOU!  Please join us and help us plan an amazing 2022-2023 year for our Athletes, Coaches and Community!

Meeting 5/17 RECAP:  We had a very productive first meeting.  The meeting was attended by 20 passionate and motivated parents, coaches and athletes from 3 of our HTH campuses.  We started with introductions and insights.  Many fun events and fundraising ideas were shared, parents stepped up to volunteer as team parents for next year, and the main concern for many was coach pay and coach retention.  Several stories involved coaches getting their experience at HTH then moving to SDUSD to get a $1,500-$2,500 stipend to coach. There were also a lot of big questions such as "how much money do we need to raise for sports to pay coaches? "How does the Foundation work/where does the money go?" "How is the booster going to be organized under the foundation?"  We will be diving deeper into the answers of all these questions as we form sub-committees and begin structuring the booster club.  The remainder of the meeting was spent brainstorming committee ideas. Thank you Victoria Rhee for being our time keeper and white board note taker!
