HAPPENINGS AT HIGH TECH HIGH
9th grade students spent the day at the Coastal Roots Farm in Encinitas continuing their work on the "Food For All" project.

What is the story of our food?

  • How do geography, politics, economics, and power affect what and how we eat?

  • Who and what influences what is considered to be nutritious, and how can we filter out myths and fads around eating well?

  • What is the Global Food Crisis, what do we need to know, and how can we make a difference in this locally?

11th grade students on Kalle and Brianna's team consulted with researchers from San Diego State Marine Lab, Cal State Fullerton and WSP Environmental about the Urban Oyster Project. Scientists gave feedback on ongoing data collection methods and analysis. Students will present findings to the public on November 9. This project is run with the Port of San Diego and Shelter Island Yacht Clubs. Pictured: Dr. Luke Miller, SDSU, consults with juniors about testing the impacts of climate change on oysters.

FROM THE JOURNALISM CLUB

Op Ed; Suddenly the Mask is Part of My Face

By Student Journalist Lucia Chavarin Lopez

The first few weeks of school when I encountered a situation where it was socially acceptable to take off my mask, I couldn’t.

I, like many people, wore my mask throughout the pandemic. I don’t remember much of what it was like adjusting to wearing a mask every time I went outside, it just became normal. In my eyes there was no alternative, especially with having high risk members in my household. The act of wearing a mask was the best decision for myself and everyone around me.
