November 4th 2022 Newsletter

 

Important: We need everyone to fill out an application for FREE and Reduced Lunch even if you don't qualify. These applications help HTH with funding. If you do qualify, you will also get discounts on SAT/ACT testing fees, discounts on school dances, prom and more.

Lisa Joe and Shelby’s team packed 5000 lbs of produce to be delivered to families through the SD Food Bank!

What is the story of our food?

  • How do geography, politics, economics, and power affect what and how we eat?

  • Who and what influences what is considered to be nutritious, and how can we filter out myths and fads around eating well?

  • What is the Global Food Crisis, what do we need to know, and how can we make a difference in this locally?

11th grade students collaborate with Forever Balboa Park to care for a planted area of Morley Field 
Jamie Hill from Resumes Done Right spent the day with 11th grade students to help them create resumes they will use to secure an internship. HTH students in 11th and 12th grade get 4 weeks to work a full time internship.

We have partnered with the Yasukochi family farm, to provide fresh locally grown fruits, vegetables, jams, eggs, and honey.  They will donate a portion of the proceeds back to HTH.

Where did you grow up?
North County San Diego
Why did you choose to work in education?
I am overly curious about everything and love exploring new avenues and I want to share this passion with others.
Tell us about a memory you have from high school?
I remember building long lasting relationships with friends from school 
and sports. I also flipped a desk over on myself the first week.
What do you like to do outside of school?
I dance, hike, bike, and climb. I try to get outside every weekend and most days after work!
What's your favorite food?
All things Mexican food!
PARENT ASSOCIATION NEWS
The HTH Family Partnership Project launched last week with 9 families registered. The families are experiencing HTH like their student and will exhibit their final project in December at Exhibition. 

Join us on Wednesday, November 16th at 5:30pm English, 6pm Spanish for a very special Facetime with Fahima. HTH Director Fahima Ahmed will share school news and updates. Then Author and HTH Educator Jean Kluver will join us to talk about her book "Changing the Subject" 20 years of PBL projects at High Tech High. We will also be raffling off a book.

COLLEGE NEWS

Dear HTH Students and families, 

Woohoo College Day! Exciting day tomorrow as our students explore campuses all over California. Some of the campuses our students are visiting include UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UCLA, Chapman University, UCSD, USD, SDSU and more. 

The best way for students to discover what they want in a college is to visit! The students will be touring the campus and talking with HTH alums about what the college experience is really like.
