Internship Project Update

11th grade Zach Popov: "The first project I worked on at the University of San Diego’s Jacobs Institute was helping one of my mentors with a project that would be showcased at the 10-year anniversary of USD Engineering School. I worked alongside an engineering professor to create a “Rube Goldberg” machine that would use a robot to create a drink from many chain reactions.

The engineering event went splendidly, and the reaction worked practically every time we needed it to work. People were able to create a drink using the machine."

HTH Seniors are out their 4 week Endersession experience. Endersession can include an internship, service opportunity, volunteer opportunity, certification or course or credit recovery. It’s one of those unique experiences offered at High Tech High. Thank you to 11th grade HTH student Brandon Ridgeway for creating the graphic. Brandon also talked to our seniors about their college application journey and future plans. Check that out below.

Last year, the HTH students who participated in the 100 Degrees of Freedom Intersession Experience were featured on KPBS.

We are excited to offer Intersession again this year. It is a novel and unique opportunity for students and teachers to direct their own learning, create new relationships and experiences, and cultivate inspiration from the simple joy of discovery and learning by doing.

We believe that Intersession provides students and teachers with the freedom to learn without the typical school constraints. It’s another beautiful way to infuse play, passion and purpose in learning, work and life.

Intersession runs from Tuesday, May 30th to Friday, June 9th for a total of nine days of classes.  We will follow a traditional school day schedule (8:40am-3:40pm) with lunch from 12:00-12:40pm.

CELEBRATING OUR SENIORS

Alejandro Huerta
Storm Track and Field

Where did your love for track start?

“My love for track started around Junior year. As I began getting better at running and medaling in races, my dedication finally paid off, creating a loop where I worked even harder to achieve better results.”

What made you decide to join Storm?

“I joined the Storm Track/XC team freshman year to get in shape

because I knew I needed to get more active and play fewer video games. As time went on, I stayed on the team because I was enjoying the process of running with the team.”

What is your favorite memory while playing for Storm?

“My favorite memory on the Storm Track team has been hanging out with my teammates between races knowing that you have a couple more races to run. Although you are all nervous and it may be an individual sport, you share the experience together.”

If you could give one piece of advice for student athletes just joining Track, what would it be?

“Some advice I would give to people joining the team would be to have fun with the process and stay focused and ready to endure pain in the races because, at the end of the day, no matter how hard you have trained, if you are unable to overcome the mental barrier of running a race it will be hard for you to enjoy the sport."
