HTH HAPPENINGS

Jesse Wade Robinson’s 11th grade biology classes have been focused on learning about genetic mutations, namely, cancer mutations. In groups of three, students have decided on a treatment of choice that they will be administering to live mammalian glioblastoma cells (mice brain tumors) to observe its effects. Students will also have a control group of cells, to serve as a basis for comparison, and the project’s objective is to halt metastasis (cell migration) and reduce and stop cancer growth, rendering the tumor harmless.

10th grade Chemistry students experiment with chemical reactions from different compounds for their project "Pollution Reaction Demos". At Exhibition, students will present their reactions and explain what is happening. Students investigated cause and effect relationships by altering the amounts of reactants used in at least three trials.

10th grade students rehearse their "Actos", a collaboration project with Humanities and Spanish. Students wrote plays about topics meaningful to them and will perform on Wednesday, December 13th at 4:15pm-5:30pm at High Tech High. Everyone is invited to attend!

Seniors are working hard on their "On Our Tables" project. This student is routing a handle into a cutting board of walnut of maple. All the handmade items will be on sale at Exhibition.

Season of Change: A Farewell to Lucera and Judy By Student Journalist Lucía Chavarín López It has been two months since beloved staff members Lucera León-Gallegos and Judy Zapien left High Tech High. Lucera had been a 12th-grade art teacher and boy's soccer coach at High Tech High for seven years. Judy Zapien has been an EML (Emergent Multilingual Learning) Coordinator and Ed Specialist at HTH for ten years. As they transitioned to Lincoln High School and Bostonia Global High School, I had the opportunity to sit down with them and celebrate their time at HTH.
