“Resilience is accepting your new reality, even if it’s less good than the one you had before. You can fight it, you can do nothing but scream about what you’ve lost, or you can accept that and try to put together something that’s good.”

HTH HAPPENINGS THIS PAST WEEK!
The UN says climate change has reached a Code Red for Humanity. This fall, 11th-grade students on the Jesse/Margaret/Erik team worked with community-based climate groups to create student-led projects addressing climate change. Check out their work here on the team's website or watch a short film about the importance of youth voice on this issue and the need to stand up for the future.

Pronto Pass For the Youth

by Damian Garcia, 11th grade

Chances are many of you take public transportation to get to and from school and you also pay for bus and trolley fares or get some assistance from the school to cover the costs. But this is going to change soon! The San Diego Association of Governments (“SANDAG”),  which oversees the MTS, and approved a new pilot program that will cover your bus fare starting in  Spring 2022.

11th Grade biology students in Jesse and Kalle's classes simulated dialysis in order to study semi-permeable membrane structure and function as well as biological macromolecules.
10th-grade students in Michael Chin's chemistry class conduct a smell lab. The students blindly sniffed 15 familiar smells, tried to identify them and deconstruct them. Did you know that almonds and cherries have the same smell? #hthpride

COVID-19 Testing

We are offering FREE antigen testing on the PL campus daily (7:30-9:30), weather and circumstances permitting. All staff and students can test during those hours. Staff and students that registered or were here last school year will have to register again. But once you do that registration and consent is good for the 2021-2022 school year.

Please help us improve HTH by completing the Youth Truth Survey – an independently run survey that allows you to provide feedback on how we are doing as a school. We value all feedback – the good news that helps us know what we are doing right, and the not-so-good that helps us know the areas where we could do better. We aim to be the best place for you to send your children and this is one way that helps us get there.  Family Survey Link

Why did you choose to work in education?
I learned at a very young age, 24 years old that I enjoyed helping people learn English so that they could achieve their career and academic goals. What are your hopes for this school year?
To be able to help Teachers, especially our newer teachers learn how to create better integrated ELD curriculum and also the culturally responsive curriculum.
What do you love most about HTH?
Internal and External Collaborative Community partnerships, the fire for love and passion for teachers have for design, teaching, and lifelong learning. I have developed some amazing and genuine collegial friendships that I highly respect and will endear forever in my heart.
