HTH HAPPENINGS THIS PAST WEEK!
Here are some photos of 12th grade students on Genevieve and Lucera's team doing a natural dye lab experiment and exploring new shibori techniques in the Art vs Material project
Today we brought over the High Tech Middle 6th grade team to meet with our HTH 9th grade team. The 6th graders presented their stories of perseverance, math number stories, and self portrait collages they have made in the last two weeks.
Each 6th grader was paired with a 9th grader who critiqued, gave them feedback and helped them revise their writing.
Most of our 6th graders returned to the building saying "Are we going to see our buddies again?!" or "The 9th graders are so nice!"
All three 10th grade teams headed to the San Diego Zoo today for some team bonding time.
10th grade students in Michael Chin's class participating in a chemistry lab examining compounds and molecules.
11th grade students participating in a micro-pipet challenge in Kalle’s Biology class!
Join us on Tuesday, March 15th at 6:30pm Register in advance for this meeting

Mask Update - In alignment with the guidance of federal, state, and local public health experts, High Tech High will transition to an indoor mask-optional policy starting on Monday, March 14. HTH will continue to encourage indoor mask wearing, and provide masks to any students and staff members who wish to wear them.

COVID-19 Testing - FREE antigen testing on the PL campus daily (7:30-9:30) at the HTM lunch tables.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Meet Amanda Dahlgren, 12th grade Art teacher

Where did you grow up?
Sweden, then the Bay Area/Silicon Valley
Why did you choose to work in education?
I have come to believe that it is my mission is to challenge and inspire everyone in my care to find powerful and authentic ways to express themselves through the arts.
What are your hopes for this school year?

To be richly and radically changed by the people in this unique learning environment.
What do you love most about HTH?
I am so impressed by how confident and articulate the students are. I am also humbled by the inspiring work that is being done by my colleagues.
Tell us about a memory you have from high school?
I'm still upset with my mother that she made me take German instead of Spanish in High School. I knew way back then that Spanish would be so much more useful but I couldn't convince her!
What do you like to do outside of school?
I play bass in a cover band (with Margaret Egler!) and I love to play tennis and Pickleball. I also love going to art exhibitions at galleries and museums and love hearing artists speak about their work.

STORM BOYS VOLLEYBALL
From Coach Noah - "This was the first tournament that we've played since 2019 and the first win that we've got over the past 2 years. Day 1 of the tournament started a little rough as we were playing teams that were above our current skill level. Despite that, we rose up to their level and put up a good fight. Day 2 of the tournament was when all the gears started turning. We won all our games and ended up winning our bracket and brought home a trophy. I am excited to continue this season with this awesome team and win more games."

STORM BOYS TENNIS
The Storm Men's Varsity Tennis team is starting strong with more than 20 players and a 2-1 record so far. At their most recent away game at Patrick Henry High School, the doubles teams (Adam Gans, Antonio Maldonado, Kellan Kim, Sergio Pallares, Lucas Meza-Ehlert, and George Wilber) dominated and secured a 11-7 win. Everyone showed their best effort and beat the 8th seed in the division. The Tennis team looks forward to a strong season, especially starting with a strong 2-1 record.

STORM SWIM AND DIVE
STORM Swim & Dive team is having a strong start!  We have 49 swimmers and 2 divers!! This past week, the team swam in its first two meets. The boys pulled out a win against Mater Dei.

BOYS SOCCER
From Coach Victoria - After the regular season, our boys varsity soccer team made it to the first round of CIF. Sadly, in the freezing rain, the boys lost 3-0 to Valley Center High School. While it was not the outcome the team hoped to achieve, they finished the season with a close-knit family of 15+ brothers and should be proud of the injury and COVID challenges they overcame along the way. The freshmen really stepped up to fill big shoes, especially in the midfield, the sophomores gave a strong showing every game in their defensive and forward positions, the juniors locked it down on defense and the wings, and the seniors fought for every possession and facilitated beautiful scoring opportunities from the middle. Our team will miss the seven graduating seniors, but we are excited and hungry for the 2022-2023 season. If you are interested in learning more about the program or have questions about getting involved prior to tryouts in the fall, please contact Coach Victoria at vrhee@hightechhigh.orgGo STORM!
