HAPPENINGS AT HIGH TECH HIGH
Senior Bruk’s first time using a sewing machine in 12th grade Art class with Jelena!

And 9th grade Ms. Chase/Ari and Juli's team went to the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) to look at the exhibits and learn more about Photography for our Double Exposure Project. Students are taking photos at Balboa Park and writing about what photos strike them and what emotions they convey.

On Thursday, 11th grade students on Margaret and Jesse's team travelled to City Hall to present their comments in person to the committee. Randomly selected students from each group presented during the open public comment portion at the beginning of the meeting.

The group representatives were so eloquent AND received a lot of positive feedback from the council members!

Lisa, Joe and Shelby’s 9th grade team traveled to see the San Diego Dance Theatre Trolley dances. The San Diego Dance Theater in partnership with the Metropolitan Transit System and UCSD present Trolley Dances 2022 this weekend only. It's a 2 hour guided tour. Click here for information.
First HTH community meeting! Thank you to ASB for coordinating. Fun school wide Kahoot! and announcements. Check the slides if your student missed it.

Thank you to all the families who attended Open House! It was a record crowd. If you didn't get to attend, please check your team's weekly email for a summary of what you missed.
Thank you to all the volunteers who donated baked goods, drinks and time at the taco table. Thank you to the Parent Association for providing tacos for the staff!

FROM OUR STUDENT JOURNALISTS:

What Happened; Same Supports Different Outcomes

By HTH Student Journalist Lucía Chavarín López

Pursuing higher education is already a large feat, but to do it as a person of color is a different kind of monster. Remnants of the deep-rooted racism within the education system remain in the walls of each university. Whether it's as apparent as the "Separate but Equal" law from 1896 or as subtle as the "Mismatch Effect" from today, the message remains the same; Keep white people in and the others out.

It's the last week to donate! Thank you to everyone who has donated to the "Dollars For Doers" annual fundraising campaign! So far, we have raised $7,500, but the goal is $12,000 so we still have a ways to go.

These funds go DIRECTLY into your child’s classroom. Our top 3 priorities are Field Work, Technology and Project Materials.

Click on the HTH Family Portal to see the ways your Dollars For Doers funds were put to work in the past few years and to make a donation. Our goal is 100% participation. All donations are appreciated, however, you are under no obligation to donate.
Thank you to everyone who donated to the staff projects on Donors Choose on match day!

Your Dollars For Doers funds provided staff grants that were used to seed these projects and earn teachers a match! Woohoo!

If you want to donate directly to staff projects, check out donorschoose.org

We are also looking for funds to provide PPE kits to every student and staff in our building! If you prefer to donate to this cause, click here to see how you can sponsor a class or a whole team.

Did you know you can get a discount if you shop at an HTHPL owned business? Check out the NEW HTHPL Businesses Directory with our Point Loma campus families.
