  • Brianna/Palmer/Gilbert - “Interdependence & The Urban Oyster " Students explore the question - What do cultural phenomena and environmental impacts show us about how directly and indirectly we are connected to each other? Through this exploration, students conducted scientific field research with oysters, researched the impact of historical events on the ecology and economy of San Diego, and created a workbook for our 3rd-grade buddies.

FROM OUR STUDENT JOURNALISTS

End of an Era; Sit Think Act

By HTH Student Journalist Lucia Chavarin Lopez

Every year we see new projects coming from High Tech High students. This fall semester, John and Pat's team are creating handmade chairs that will be used to watch finished products from their Stop Motion Movies at the

end of the semester. What will be seen at Exhibition will be the product of the project Sit Think Act. A three-part project that will combine into one. This project aims to learn through the process of getting to an "Act."

THANK YOU HTH FAMILIES!
Thank you to all of our families who volunteered on site, dropped off baked goods and drinks and bought tacos during Exhibition! We were able to provide FREE dinner for the entire staff plus a FREE treat for all the HTH Alums who came back to campus for Exhibition.
High Tech Middle and High Tech Middle Media Arts students visited High Tech High to preview Exhibition. It was wonderful to see the middle school students interacting with the high school students.

Dear Student, Parents and Staff:

High Tech High considers the health and well-being of our students and staff a priority. We have been alerted that you or your child may have been exposed to an individual diagnosed with COVID-19 during Exhibition.

We are following public health recommendations to ensure that the person with COVID-19 follows instructions for isolation and remains away from others until they can safely return to school. The individual with COVID-19 was in school while infectious on December 15, 2022.

STEP 1: TEST YOUR STUDENT - Students who do NOT have any COVID-19 symptoms and have NOT had a known exposure to someone with COVID-19 should test two times:

  • Test #1: Three (3) days before returning to school or January 1st 2023

  • Test #2: The day before returning to school or January 3rd 2023

Watch the video on how to test with InteliSwab: https://inteliswab.com/

STEP 2: SHARE YOUR TEST RESULTS

Any positive tests will still need to be reported to the school site, hthpl-frontdesk@hightechhigh.org AND to the Online Reporting System by following the links below.   Of course, if you are sick (students or staff) they should stay home even if it's not COVID so that we curb that spread.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Meet Joe Bandini, 9th grade Math

Where did you grow up?
Boston, MA area
Why did you choose to work in education?
I found myself in uninspiring careers and work that I did not feel made the world a better place. I had always in the back of my mind thought of teaching since I was about 18 or 19,
but never felt ready to make the leap until about 10 years later. My wife is also a teacher, and having the same schedules allows us to travel and see the world!
What are your hopes for this school year?
I hope all students recognize the every day opportunities to build connections and grow that are present within our campus and lean on this network of support in many ways.
What do you love most about HTH?
I love how we are a community that is always striving to do things better and evolve, and that everyone who works here has a big heart and cares deeply about the world and the kids we teach. Also, getting to work with people you are friends with and enjoy being around is awesome.
Tell us about a memory you have from high school?
Winning the intramural whiffle ball championship!

And thank you to Sensations Salud, LLC.
for being a community partner for a third year!

STORM BASKETBALL UPDATE by Storm Sports Journalist Jack Brooks

The HTH STORM Boys Varsity Basketball team capped off a six-game home stand with a 48-point win over Calvin Christian, improving their record to 6-0. Farai Sibanda, a Senior on the team, shared, “I think it’s been good but we can always get better. We’re beating teams by a good margin, but we have confidence that we can beat them by an even bigger margin.” The team has been keeping up with a competitive Central League, now with a 7-1 record after a close loss to Bishop and a dominant win against Pacific Ridge.
