Snow Day on May 7th Reminder to fill out the health and safety agreement in Powerschool HTH School Calendar 20-21 Click here for the latest information regarding the Corona Virus and HTH Welcome back to campus!  9th, 10th and 11th grade students return to school for the first time in more than a year.  11th grade students performed experiments with Agar gel. 10th grade students met outside under canopies and spent some time getting to know each other.  9th grade students returned to campus with enthusiasm! For some, it was their first time ever on campus!  9th grade students watched the Netflix Documentary "Seaspiracy" and used Math Modeling to make predictions about the future of our oceans and commercial fishing. Thank you to all of our parent sponsors! Every HTH student received an HTH PPE Kit when they came back on campus. The Kits include two KN95 masks, 4 gloves and 10 wipes. But if you would like more kits for family, friends or business, we are asking for a suggested donation of $5 per kit. You can buy them online here or bring cash/check to Marcus. Questions, email Stephanie at santin@hightechhigh.org  All County-hosted COVID-19 vaccine sites are now open for walk-up, no-appointment-required vaccinations. The walk-up vaccines will be available while supplies last each day. The County will continue to offer vaccination appointments that can be scheduled online but will also set aside doses each day for walk-ups. DEEPER LEARNING The High Tech High Black Student Union By: HTH Journalist Jack Brooks “My favorite part of BSU is the people. I joined the club in 9th grade and at first, I was a little shy, but everyone was so welcoming that I started to feel comfortable and it was so great to be around people who get it,” said President Bella Boyd. The first-ever Black Student Union was created in 1966 at San Francisco University. Since then, schools around the world have created Black Student Unions (BSU) to offer safe spaces for communities to start a discussion about the world around them. Read more..... If your senior did not get a sign, please see Marcus.  #hthpride #classof2021 Sailor Brown What are your plans for the fall? * To attend the University of Redlands Tell us about your favorite HTH memory In 9th grade my friend Asia and I created a character called the witch peterson. Because of this we drew bunch of strange drawings of witches. Every time I look back on the drawings I die of laughter.   Tell us about an HTH teacher you appreciate and why Kalle Palmer was my junior year biotechnology teacher. I appreciate her because we did many fun labs and she was always so supportive and helpful. I learned a lot in her class and had loads of fun. I would honestly say she was my favorite teacher and I wish her class didn't get cut short due to covid. What will you miss most about HTH I will miss how laid back it was. Nothing felt too serious to me and most of my high school experience felt chill. It's not that I didn't do any work, it's that most of the time the projects we did didn't feel like work. What is your advice for the incoming 9th grade HTH students? don't be scared to change   COLLEGE NEWS   HTH Families and Students,  Seniors, get ready for “Chalk Day Celebrations” coming up on May 3rd and 4th! Woohoo!  All juniors will be participating in the College Essay Guy Workshop May 24-28 to get a jump start on their college essays before school ends. Plus the week of June 1st-4th, they will participate in a variety of college-focused workshops from letters of recommendation, to college resume formation to scholarship searching. And we just received notice from Mesa College that for Fall 2021, they will only be offering two ONLINE dual-enrollment courses for HTH students: Math 116 and English 101.  No in-person classes at the HTH Village this Fall. See below for details.  For Freshman and Sophomore students, it’s time to think about the ACT and SAT. If you would like to take a practice test, it’s being offered just for HTH students on Saturday, May 15th from 9am-1pm online. You can register here. Troy Schalge made into finals in his individual events,  placing 4th  in the 100 backstrokes at 53.70 and 6th in the 500 free at 4:55.00! Individuals from all Divisions were competing against each other (e.g., though our team is in Division 4 of 5, our competitors were surfing against riders from Division 1).  Needless to say, the competition was fierce with standout teams including Torrey Pines, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Point Loma and many others with surfers from as far away as Orange County.  The HTH Surf Team had several riders compete including: Emily Kurth on women's longboard, Zach Frazee on men's longboard, Kolokai Lockwood and Thomas Boyce on men's shortboard, Logan Moore and Garrett Bedford on co-ed bodyboard. Below are results, and we're extremely proud of everyone who came to practices this season, and grateful to those who came out to cheer on the team at the League Finals this weekend! Zach Frazee placed 6th overall in the men's longboard Garrett Bedford placed 2nd overall in bodyboard Logan Moore placed 4th overall in bodyboard Hey Storm Fans, the Storm Softball team is currently over 500 with a five and four record and looking to make a run in the league championship. We have a very small squad with only 12 girls, so if you think you can play, get your clearance done, and come on out and join the team! There will be plenty of chances for playtime and also a good way to work out. The Boys Volleyball team is also looking for players.
