HTH HAPPENINGS THIS PAST WEEK!
ASB Spirit Week - Preppy, Tacky Tourist, Wear Pink Day, Adam Sandler Day, Everything, But A Backpack Day and ending the week with Halloween
In Ms. Rhee's class, students played a division of labor game using paper airplanes to simulate post-Industrial Revolution assembly line deskilling. They reflected on their thoughts and emotions surrounding this experiential learning activity to inform their class discussion about the ways in which we see mass production and deskilling impacting our own lives and the world today.
The Project 360 tenth grade team (Gen-Joe-Lisa) walked to Famosa Slough on Friday to do water testing of the nitrogen levels, take 360 photos and other footage to practice photography, and write observations and reflections about the space.
This is a reflection from student Meron Assamene: "I could see the beautiful trees in the surrounding area, I could see what once was filled with people, cultures, and traditions, fade away into what is. Yet the people surrounding it now are so full of joy. It reminded me of all those days in Ethiopia when I would wake up to the sound of a flock of birds chirping, my dog barking, and my neighbors greeting each other in such a joyful way. The times I’d visit my family, every summer break. We have a house of our own, surrounded with trees, birds, and nature. Just like Famosa slough. Ethiopia doesn’t have many cities, it’s mostly wooded. So it reminded me of all those happy moments I had been alone with just nature and I."

Changing The Subject, Twenty years of projects from HTH

A cross between an art book and a how-to-manual, this beautifully designed volume features some of the most creative and inspiring student projects from the award-winning High Tech High schools in San Diego, California. With contributions from over fifty teachers, spanning grades K through high school, Changing the Subject is filled with images of student work and students working together.

The book is available on Amazon
COVID-19 Testing

We are offering FREE antigen testing on most campuses on Mondays/Tuesdays/Thursdays (7:30-9:30).  All staff and students can test during those hours. Staff and students that registered or were here last school year will have to register again.
But once you do that registration and consent is good for the 2021-2022 school year.  Please register on the Primary Health website.
Registration Landing Page  - https://my.primary.health/l/HighTechHigh

Required for testing:  Students that are on modified quarantine or participating in indoor sports can use our onsite antigen tests, as well as staff that are unvaccinated.  If a student or staff member has COVID symptoms, they must go home and return with a PCR test through a County site, pharmacy or physician.

Any student or staff that just wanted to test preventatively may do so on campus.
STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Ms. Genevieve De Kervor, 10th grade Chemistry teacher

by HTH Journalist Jack Brooks

“During the pandemic I came back to the United States to visit my family because I didn’t know what was happening....I called 11th grade HTH Biology teacher Jesse to say hello and she said that they were looking for academic coaches...

I arrived and I love it. I was accepted into a program to study film at UCSD, but I decided that I would rather be a teacher...So here I am,” says Ms. Genevieve, 10th-grade Chemistry teacher. Genevieve is also a High Tech High alum, and a big part of what she does today was because of her former teacher, Jesse Wade-Robinson. “She (Jesse Wade) inspired me to study science and I loved science so deeply.”

Genevieve teaches chemistry with a passion and connects a lot of her projects back to the periodic table. With teaching partners Lisa Griffin and Joe Bandini, she’s a big influence on the learning environment for classes E and F.
